Skincare Rituals | Mud Masking and Resurfacing

I live for my skincare rituals. I admit that most of the time, my nightly routine is a lot of hurry-up-and-lets-get-this-show-on-the-road, but when I have the time, it’s so nice to take my time and enjoy every last bit of my skincare.

Mud masking is one of my go-to rituals when I just want to sit in the tub with a comic book and relax.

Step 1: Oil Cleanse

I am in love with several different balms right now, but whichever one I’m really feeling I will spread all over my makeup-free face. I’ll use a teeny bit more than I need to so I can get a nice massage with no friction.

Then comes my favorite part. I wet a washcloth with very warm water, wring it out, and press it against my face. The balm melts into my skin, and the perfumes activate, and it’s like a tiny spa for my face. It feels and smells so nice.

I’ll do this a few times, then wipe the balm away. On mud mask night I don’t follow up with a liquid cleanser.

Step 2: Mud Mask

Usually I am more of a hydrating mask kinda girl, but this Dead Sea mask is my jam. I like the way it smells and the way it feels. Lately I have been using a paintbrush to apply my masks. I got mine from Hobby Lobby for $9.99. No fancy $30 mud mask brush for me. (Im looking at you, May Lindstrom).

Step 3: HOT Bath!

For Valentine’s Day my husband got me 4 (!!) boxes of bath bombs from this seller on Etsy and they are the BEST. They are just the right size so that they don’t coat your bathtub in oil (I hate that) and you don’t reek after you get out of the tub. They’re perfect and they smell fantastic.

Soak. Add more hot water as needed. Read books. Ignore your family.

Step 4: Remove Mud Mask

I bring a fresh washcloth with me into the tub and remove my mask there. Just run some fresh warm water onto the washcloth and you’re golden.

Step 5: Get Out and Apply Acids

I’ll apply my Sunday Riley Good Genes to my damp face and let that sit for another 30 or so minutes before finishing up my routine with a hydrating toner and a nice, rich oil like my Sunday Riley Flora.

And that’s it for me! What are your favorite evening rituals and how do you indulge yourself?
